Sonnenzimmer Art Print Series

We proudly present the Sonnenzimmer Art Print Series. Our motto: Done by artists, run by artists! Please note that, these prints are sold with the artist's consent and the proceeds are shared down the middle. That's right! So, by getting one of these prints, you don't only help us keep this series going, but also support the artist. Seems nice - to feel good about buying something, ay? We had a bunch of fine folks aligned to come into our studio and do some serious printing. We are sure that they will suprise you with their own awesome visuals. All of the prints have been hand-printed and hand-stacked at Sonnenzimmer with the help of the artists themselves. We encourage you to also check out the artist's websites to place their print into a bigger picture of their work. Common back for updates about progress and also artists. We are planning 2008 and we'll have more to post, as the year evolves. We are currenty browsing around for new artists for the next series.

Anders Nilsen

Ander's came into the studio with clear idea for his print. Loosely resembling the work that appeared in his critically aclaimed book "Monologues For The Coming Plague", Ander's placed a silhouette in the middle of an eye scorching landscape. This silhouette is here to offer some sound words of advice for us, the viewer, and the unseen hero of this one panel comic strip. This print had a few technical challenges along the way but Ander's never missed a beat. In the end, He managed to sculpt a very beautiful and interesting print out of quite a few sticky situations.

Chris Kerr

Chris brought in this insane line drawing. He really wanted the print to be colorful, so we just went for it. Filling in the shapes coloring book style. We began with the pink sky and shark gums. Moved on to the green cloud and mangled mermaid body. Gave the sharks their blue bodies. Made the boat nice and wooden. Made some white bellies for the nice friendly sharks. Drew some blood... Filled the urine sea and caped it off with the line work. We are all really psyched about how it came out.

CARRIE POLLACK

Carrie based her print around a composition of torn paper that she put together in our studio on her second day here. We started by printing one to two paper shapes at a time in very transparent yellow, allowing the shapes underneath to overlap and create unplanned shapes and colors. From there, we moved on to a cool purplish grey to tone down the yellows and to give the print it's orientation. These shapes were equally transparent, making even more unforseen shapes and colors. By the end, the prints had 7 layers of tranparent goodness. Giving us what you see here. We are all really happy with how this print turned out.
