Eyeworks – Festival of Experimental Animation 2011

Eyeworks Festival of Experimental Animation is a Chicago-based event organized by local talents, Lilli Carré and Alexander Stewart, both accomplished animators and artists in their own right. This festival truly bridges the gap between character-based narrative to all-out avant garde explorations. We expect nothing less from the poster. After last years exploratory advert, we decided to try our hands at creating another animated poster for 2011. This time with the help of Lilli and Alexander. The animation came together in a few different ways. Printed with just 5 screens, we achieved 10 different color variants by switching out inks mid run. The bubbling purple blob was attacked by paint brushes as it came of the press by Lilli, Alexander and ourselves, and the Charley Brown stripe was moved around for the entire print run.. The individual posters were then shot in sequence and brought to life by Lilli and Alexander. This is our favorite festival of the year, a real conglomeration of stunning graphic forms, cerebral music, and twisting narratives.
