Glad Cloud is a live ambient music series curated by Ben Mjolsness at Chicago’s, The Whistler. Ben approached us about creating a multi-use poster for the event. One that could be hung around town to promote the series, but more importantly, could hang in the entrance of the Whistler and list the upcoming performers. Ambient music can mean different things to different people, and Ben has been doing a great job of covering the bases of the disparate genre, everything from guitar based drone to amorphous electronic music has been featured in the series. We wanted to create a poster that suited the genre, so atmosphere was of utmost importance. The jumbled typeface mix purposely obscures the title, while using a bright colors and lively curves to invite the viewer to investigate. Nadine did a fantastic job of creating the “loungey” motel lobby vibe with her choicws in typefaces.
