Yellow: The Immediate Sound Series is a local jazz and improvised music series that’s been going on for a couple of years now here in Chicago. At the wonderful venue, The Hide Out, people come together on Wednesday nights to kick it to crazy, chill, improvised tunes. Mitch Cocanig, one of the organizers, has been commissioning posters by local and national artists for each months events. Jazz / Improvised Music / Electronic posters enjoy a strong legacy here in the city from Sunra, to Stone & Kimball Printing, but it comes down to individuals who value the commission. Keep your eyes peeled for an expansive 10 year history of these posters…
Beige: A tribute to Richard Paul Lohse, a Swiss graphic artist, painter, thinker and founder of Swiss systematic-constructive art. Please do check out this great work that has influenced many visual thinkers and chromatic painters. He felt strongly about bringing together the two avant-gardes – the artistic and the political – something that has often been reflected in in the beginnings of new musical genres. The Umbrella Music Series does that in it’s very own way, showcasing individual musical approaches to a genre that is always pushing forward.
