Sweden’s Tape are one of our favorite bands. They play a really sparse mix of pastoral folk, free jazz, and music concrete that manages to be forward thinking and accessible, all at the same time. For this tour, they were sharing the stage with New York’s, Mountains, another group who are no strangers to experimentation. This poster marked a new direction at the studio – understanding the power of ink coverage and redefining experimentation in style. It set the tone for 2010, allowing us to use this 4-color dither technique and spot color mix on the Insound series. This is typical at the studio. The process discovered on one job, flows into the next one or informs it in an unforeseen way. This poster also resonated with us in a very personal way, as we really were feeling the downwards pull of the recession and the limitations of print. At the same time, it rejuvenated our belief in it through working with the band on the poster. Motivated through the fresh jump start, we started signing and numbering ever thing we make and it has made a huge difference in our approach.Thank you Tape, you were our glue.
