Taqwacore is a contemporary music movement started by alienated muslim youth living in the US and UK. Inspired by the fictional account of the rise of an Islamic punk scene in Buffalo, New York in Michael Muhammad Knight’s book, The Taqwacores, real muslim teenagers begin to pick up guitars and start bands. Simultaneously channeling their angst and celebrating their heritage and beliefs, these kids are creating some amazing topical music. This event was put together by Chicago upstart, Homeroom, a great non-profit organization and future all-ages venue geared towards giving Chicago’s youth and place to foster positive relationships.
