Carrier Shell: Identity Congruence

Carrier Shell: Identity Congruence

Carrier Shell is a series of screen prints exploring the relationship between image and the built environment. The project was initiated as a collaborative vehicle between ourselves and educator, architectural designer, and author Nikole Bouchard on the heels of her book Waste Matters: Adaptive Reuse for Productive Landscapes (Routledge). We worked intensively with Bouchard as publication designers and illustrators for Waste Matters where we developed the layout of the book, as well as created a series of abstract graphic plates through an iterative image making process. In this print series, we extend this gesture.  Each print began with a source image and aims to use the image creation, separation, and printing process as a didactic interface for exploring the conceptual and physical connections of image and the built environment. Utilizing additive finishing techniques such as puff additive, overprinting, and UV varnishes, these prints ride the line of image and object, while condensing and expanding and the perception of depth.
