Sawn Gong

In August of 2018, I (Nick) had the great pleasure of teaching an intro to screen printing course at Ox-bow School of Art in Saugatuck, MI with artist and musician Mat Daly. Daly made a lasting impact on the Chicago music and screen printed poster community with his expressive approach to hand cut stencils and loud rock (with his former band Taking Pictures). Over the course of our week long class, we kicked off a long talked about musical collaboration under the name Sawn Gong. In just fine days, we taught 8 people to screen print, started a band, booked and played our first show (in a meadow), and made this poster. The posters were hung around Ox-bow's wooded campus and we both came home with a few extra copies.
