Surge Quartet

The Surge Quartet are Christoph Erb - reeds, Fred Lonberg-Holm - cello, Keefe Jackson - reeds, and Gabby Fluke-Mogul - violin. The group came together for a 2025 stint across the Midwest, with Chicago as a home base. Creating textured improvisations using a paired reeds and strings, the quartet offer a master class in controlled vibrations, resonance, and overtones. Each band member pushes their instrument to curious and unfamiliar territory through a mixture of extended technique and a reverence for traditional musicality.  We wanted the poster to capture the textural and tonal nuances of the music. It mixes a few printing techniques, relief and screen printing. With imagery culled from From hand-carved wood block to landscape painting, the poster turns traditional techniques on their head, not through subversion, but through tempered interaction.
