Philip Glass / Third Coast Percussion / Gavin Bryars
We've had the great pleasure of working with Third Coast Percussion on several projects in the last few years, including a poster, and two album covers (1,2). In 2019, the group will be releasing Perpetullum, an album of original works by members of the ensemble, a piece written for the group by Philip Glass, as well a composition by Gavin Bryars. We were really excited to work with the group again and thrilled to have the opportunity to be tangentially connected to Glass and Bryars. This poster celebrates the upcoming release on Orange Mountain Music, Philip Glass' record label. The poster's most prominent feature, a deep black circle, was printed with special thermochromic ink, which changes color (from black to clear) when raised to 86 degrees F. The poster hints at the visible and invisible natural world. We play with ideas of cycles, obscurity, vision, and materiality in hopes of making the familiar feel new. Though we are familiar with the natural world, much of it remains a mystery.
