Idle Flowers
Idle Flower finds our studio practice at yet another inflection point. Settled in our new studio, the means of production are not only in our hands, they are in our home. Proximity is a breeding ground for adhoc innovation. With a print shop and industrial sewing machine just beneath our kitchen, ideas are cooking in a new way. Our old studio was a pressure cooker; the new one is a crock pot.
Flavors and influence are congealing at the pace of daily life. In it, a holistic ethos is emerging, and it's shaping our work. Idle Flower is the result. Created using remnant props from our Sunraiser campaign and fabric on hand, this quilt quietly celebrates the seed of our new workspace* and the shape of flowers to come.
Quilting has been a cornerstone of our artistic practice since 2013 and our pivotal exhibition, Image as Object, Object as Image, at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Our quilts blend image making, printmaking, craft, and material exploration into approachable and functional objects.
